I have a confession to make. It’s difficult to say. Really, really difficult, especially given where I’m writing it. I don’t actually want to say it but I’m going to because I have decided now is the time for me to address this issue.
I, Lisa Rutland, have a crap wardrobe.
Yes, that is correct. I write a fashion blog and have a completely sucky wardrobe. It’s boring, totally dullsville and it says nothing about me as a person other than “hey that chick doesn’t have much to wear”.
It has no cohesion, no flair, no je ne sais quoi factor that makes me feel fabulous and special.
I don’t know how this happened.
Well, OK, I do.
I have a full-time job for which I wear a uniform. Other than that I’m building an online business so generally can be found hunched over my keyboard or with my nose stuck in a book, which I’m as likely to do in my pj’s as anything else. Other than that my partner and I are renovating our home so in my spare time I’m usually digging in the dirt or some other disgusting activity that doesn’t much require in the way of elegant clothing.
So I’ve gotten slack. I don’t go out often enough that a nice pair of jeans and decent top won’t cover my needs.
I always had this idea that one day things would change and I would just suddenly have a fabulous wardrobe. Well, maybe not suddenly but I did think, especially once I started this blog and started learning about clothes that it would jsut naturally happen, organically so to speak, over time. I’d just accumulate fabulous pieces and suddenly, yay, I’m stylish.
Not so much as it turns out.
I’ve decided to do something about it. Although my needs have not changed as such – still working in my uniform, still staying at home writing, still renovating – its time for me to get the wardrobe I’ve always wanted. In fact now is the perfect time, because I have time, so to speak.
So … I’m going to give myself a wardrobe makeover. Probably a cheap one because you know, renovating a house here, but a makeover none the less.
Not altogether how to do that just yet, but I’m a researcher, I’m gonna research it.
I’m also a writer so I’m going to write about it here. Stick around and see what happens.
